Migrant man busted for drunkenly fighting cops at Randall’s Island shelter — sending one to the hospital
A migrant was busted for drunkenly fighting cops who tried to boot him from the Randall’s Island migrant shelter over the weekend — sending one to the hospital, police said.
Yakson Mendez, 30, was “intoxicated and acting disorderly” inside the facility at 600 East 125th St. just before 11 p.m. Sunday, cops said.
Security tried to escort him from the shelter – but he refused to leave and became “belligerent” – so the staffers requested help from the NYPD, authorities said.
But Mendez also refused to comply with cops and flailed his arms as they tried to place him in cuffs, cops said.
The arresting officer’s partner was hurt in the scuffle, suffering bruises on his wrist and “substantial” pain in his right shoulder, police said.
He was treated at a local hospital, cops said.
The violence came a month after a migrant stabbed a fellow asylym seeker to death at Randall’s Island.
Venezuela citizen Moises Coronado, 27, is accused of stabbing Dafren Canizalez, 35, after the two had a tiff over Canizalez’s girlfriend, according to prosecutors and cop.
The beef was sparked when Coronado made a remark about Canizalez’s girlfriend leading to Canizalez punching Coronado, according to the charges against him.
Coronado and two other men at the shelter then chased Canizalez down with knives drawn, according to the allegations.
