Heat dome to settle over Northeast and bring relentless wave of dry, sweltering heat to NYC

A heat dome is expected to clamp down on the Northeast on Tuesday, bringing a relentless wave of dry, 90-degree-plus temps to New York City that will persist throughout the week.

The natural phenomenon — caused by hot air being trapped over a region — is set to top out at 95 degrees in the Big Apple on Thursday in what will be the first heat wave of the summer, Fox Weather meteorologists told The Post.

“We’re really going to get socked with it,” said Fox meteorologist Marissa Torres.

Showers are expected later today, with the weather predicted to then stay muggy through the weekend and into Monday before things dry up by Tuesday, when the heat wave begins.

The first day of the scorching heat will bring 91 degrees to New York City, with temperatures rising to 93 by Wednesday, according to meteorologists.

The temperatures are expected to stay in the 90s on Friday and Saturday, capping off a week of blistering heat 20 degrees hotter than last year during the same period.

There are no indications yet that this summer will be the hottest on record, but it will be warmer than average, experts say.

Some New Yorkers were lovin’ it.

“What can I say? … I look forward to this time of year all year long — truly,” said John Hawk of AC Repair and Maintenance Lower Manhattan, who predicted the heat will bring a welcome uptick in business.

“They say it’s gonna be the hottest weather yet, and I just can’t wait.”

Helene Silver, 78, said, “I absolutely hate the cold.

“I don’t mind the heat at all,” she told The Post.

“I will spend every day, no matter how hot, outside. So I’m actually looking forward to the warm weather. I don’t care how hot it gets.”

Efrain Gonzalez, 49, said the weather was ideal to help jumpstart the summer in the Big Apple.

“We need the heat so that people can go out and enjoy bike riding, they can use the pools, maybe go to the beach, you know, so that we can start getting the summer started,” he said.

But others were more cool to the idea.

“I love the summer, but I’m going to have to be inside. Because of my age and my health, I can’t take the risk,” said retiree Carmen Jerrick, 75.

Another retiree, a tourist from Ohio who only identified herself as Lee, 65, cursed her luck at the timing of her vacation.

“What luck I have coming during a heat wave,” she said. “I’m not sure if it’s going to ruin my trip but I’m not looking forward to it.”

The heat dome ensures that residents won’t be getting much relief after sundown, with temperatures forecast to remain in the mid-70s throughout the nights.

Similar weather is expected for the whole tri-state area, with New Jersey expected to experience even more excruciating heat.

Temperatures for Newark, NJ, are predicted to reach 93 degrees Tuesday, 94 degrees Wednesday, and a sweltering 97 degrees Thursday.

In Stanford, Conn., temperatures will reach 90 degrees Tuesday, 93 degrees Wednesday and match New York City’s high of 95 degrees Thursday.

Pittsburgh is forecast to see a high of 100 degrees.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning for a moderate risk of excessive heat in the region, urging residents to stay hydrated and limit their time out in the sun.
