Australian canoe slalom star reveals what’s in box medalists get at 2024 Olympics

If you’ve been wondering what’s in the long, skinny, gold box that the 2024 Summer Olympics medalists receive at the podium — as an alternative to flowers — one of the athletes has your answer.

Australia’s Jessica Fox, the most decorated canoe slalom athlete in Olympic history, responded to a fan’s comment — “Well done but what’s in the box?” — in an unboxing TikTok video she posted on Wednesday.

Fox, who’s racked up two gold medals in Paris so far, pulled out a rolled-up print of the official Paris Olympics poster, which was adorned in gold embroidery.

On Sunday, the Australian paddler snagged the gold in the women’s kayak slalom.

Almost three days later, Fox, 30, captured gold — her third career Olympic gold medal —in the women’s canoe final.

She finished in 101.06 — 2.48 seconds faster than the German silver medalist Elena Lilik — despite a two-second touch penalty.

“I don’t know how I did that, the atmosphere was incredible. I looked out and I saw so much green and yellow — so many Aussie flags and I think that was the best run I’ve ever done,” the veteran said after Saturday’s race, per the Olympics website.

Fox etched her name in Olympic history books as the first athlete to win gold medals in both K-1 and C-1 in the same games.

She earned the silver at the 2012 games in the kayak slalom, and the bronze in both 2016 and 2021.

Her Olympic campaign is not over yet.

Fox is set to compete in the kayak cross event on Friday — alongside her younger sister Noemie Fox, 27, — which kicks off at 10:40 a.m. ET.

Noemie will be making her Olympic debut during Friday’s event.
