Garrett Wilson will let his Jets play answer 49ers star’s trash talk

The Week 1 matchup between the Jets and 49ers is still more than a month away, but the trash talk started months ago.

49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward appeared on “Up and Adams” in May and acted like he did not know the name of Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Wilson responded Wednesday.

“I saw it. That’s cool,” Wilson said. “They’re right, frankly. It’s all good. I ain’t done nothing yet. I’m excited to have the opportunity to do it on them, get it rolling, right? That’s just how it is. Any opponent we play, that’s the mindset.”

Wilson sounds eager to show Ward and everyone how explosive he can be with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.

“I ain’t done nothing,” Wilson said. “I’ve got to go prove to the world that I can be who I think I am.”

On Tuesday, Jets coach Robert Saleh said he did not think Rodgers would play in the preseason.

Wednesday, Rodgers said he is fine with whatever the coaches decide.

“That’s Robert’s decision,” Rodgers said. “I’ve never told him I don’t want to play in the preseason. There’s a lot of thoughts about whether there’s any particular gain from it. You know, we used to play all the time. It wasn’t even a question.”

Rodgers said he expects to get plenty of work during the joint practices with the Commanders, Panthers and Giants.

Rodgers said his recovery from his torn Achilles won’t play a factor in whether he can play in preseason games.

“I don’t have any restrictions,” Rodgers said. “I’m doing keepers, rollouts. So, it was news to me [Tuesday] when he said I wasn’t going to play in the first two. We hadn’t even had a conversation yet about that, so, I was, you know, assuming I took a ton of reps in the intrasquad, when the other team comes in or whatever we call that, those fun times. And then maybe he wants me to play. I’ll play.”

Rodgers was asked about his comment in early July at a golf tournament when he said he would like to play with Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams again.

That comment sparked speculation the Jets were trading for Adams.

“I do love Davante, for sure,” Rodgers said. “That particular guy [asking the question] was a tad bit irritating, I would say. It was one of those things where it’s like when you just like somebody is on you, like asking the same question over and over and over. And I just was trying to just give him something and get rid of him. Yeah. But, I think I was talking about golf.”
