Steph Curry gets $62.6 million Warriors contract extension — for one year

Stephen Curry may have just signed his lifetime achievement contract.

The Warriors inked their long-time cornerstone to a one-year, $62.6 million extension that will be added on to his current contract, which runs through the 2025-26 season and paid him about $52 million this past season, followed by $55.8 million this coming year and a tad less than $60 million for 2025-26, per ESPN.

Curry signed for the most he was eligible to receive due to the NBA’s over 38 rule, where a team can extend a player over 38 to just a one-year deal, according to ESPN.

Curry is 36 and won’t turn 37 until March, but since the extension would activate after his 38th birthday, the rule applies.

The NBA’s 3-point king is entering his 16th NBA season this fall, all with the Warriors, who drafted him No. 7 overall in 2009 after his memorable career at Davidson.

Curry is coming off his first Olympic gold medal after helping power Team USA to the championship in this summer’s Olympic Games.

He provided a critical boost in the last two games, accumulating 60 points and shooting 17-for-26 from deep across the semifinal against Serbia and the gold medal game versus France.

While he won gold this summer, the Warriors are no longer the championship contenders of years past.

He lost long-time running mate Klay Thompson this offseason, with the fellow Splash Brother defecting to the reigning Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks.

The Warriors will rely on the youth and development of Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis to help raise their ceiling, along with offseason acquisitions Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson.
