Eight killed in Mississippi bus crash, including 6-year-old boy
Eight people, including a 6-year-old boy, were killed and dozens more seriously injured in a horrific bus crash Saturday morning in Mississippi.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the charter bus carrying 47 people overturned along Interstate 20, as the bus was headed west near Bovina, located approximately 40 miles from the city of Jackson.
Local first responders said one of the vehicle’s tires blew out around 12:30 a.m., the Vicksburg News reported.
The 2018 Volvo bus veered off of the roadway before rolling onto its side.
Several of the passengers were ejected from the bus when it crashed.
Officials have not yet named any of the eight deceased passengers, but said two of the victims were siblings, aged 6 and 16.
Vicksburg Fire Department responded to the scene of the tragic crash, with 37 of the passengers were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.
It was unclear where the charter bus was headed.
“Anytime you have people injured or killed, it’s tragic,” said Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace, speaking to WAPT. “But when you have a situation like this, where you have multiple fatalities and multiple injuries, it makes it even worse.”
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
