Concerned TikTokker warns of danger lurking in public restrooms: ‘If you want to be safe,’ check this one thing
A TikTokker is warning women against using public restrooms anywhere, saying serious health hazards are hiding in plain sight.
The young man, Devan, made the public service announcement in a TikTok video that has clocked up 611,000 views — and a whole lot of alarm.
“This pertains to men and women, but mainly women, and you’re gonna see why,” Devan declared, before revealing that restrooms’ toilet paper can be a problem.
Before taking a pee or poop break away from home, Devan urged viewers, one should check inside the toilet paper roll dispensers to see whether IV drug users had wiped their needles.
In the video, Devan showed a picture of a toilet roll that was speckled with blood-like spots.
“This is from needle-using junkies going into the bathroom, taking that cover that’s over it [the toilet roll dispenser] off, sticking their needles in there and cleaning their needles,” Devan claimed.
He added that even if you don’t see blood on the roll, it’s important to check for pin-like holes since needles aren’t necessarily always bloody after use.
“If you wanna be safe, take the cover off, check the toilet paper. If it looks like that, get up and throw that s–t in the trash,” he urged.
He said you should carry wipes of your own to ensure their safety in case you need to use a restroom away from home.
The Post has reached out to Devan for comment.
Devan added that he has personally seen blood-speckled paper once or twice at public facilities — but viewers said they had seen similar things in a variety of public restrooms.
“Saw this in a small café in Rome Italy. it’s a worldwide dilemma,” one wrote.
Meanwhile, others were shocked by the revelation and thanked Devan for his public service announcement.
“Never would have thought of that! Thank you soooo much for the heads up,” one grateful person said.
“Thanks for the advice!! This is crazy!! How scar. Simple things like toilet paper can be a hazard,” a second shocked viewer said.
This isn’t the first time someone on TikTok warned their followers about the risk.
Last year, TikTok tipster Dane Jones shared a snap of a toilet paper roll covered with small red flecks alongside long, thin and colorless streak marks.
“If you look closely, you will see a bunch of tiny red blood splotches,” Jones noted. “That is not from someone’s bloody nose or little accident.”
“It’s from someone cleaning their needles — dirty needles to be exact,” he continued. “We don’t know if this was one person or multiple people cleaning their needles from injecting drugs.”
He urged anyone who saw such a sight to immediately leave the public restroom.
