Danielle Fishel has completed her breast cancer treatment.
The “Boy Meets World” alum, 43, revealed she’s “officially” done with treatment, but she’s now dealing with the painful side effects of the 20 rounds of radiation.
Fishel disclosed the news on Monday’s episode of her “Pod Meets World” podcast, which she co-hosts with her “Boy Meets World” co-stars Rider Strong and Will Friedle.
“I am officially done with radiation,” the actress announced before clarifying that while she’s “officially done with what is considered active cancer treatment” for a form of breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a diagnosis she shared in August, she’s reeling from the aftereffects.
“I did 15 rounds of whole breast radiation and then five rounds of targeted radiation, which just means they focus in on the very small area where my cancer was versus treating the entire breast,” Fishel said.
“It will help significantly lower my chances of recurrence, which is always good news, but, boy, I am feeling the effects,” she noted. “Physically, I have a very bad sunburn. I also have a rash on top of the sunburn, which is just great,” she added sarcastically.
“It’s very itchy, and, also, you can’t itch it, because if you even come close to touching it, you wanna cry,” Fishel said, adding it “hurts to wear a bra, hurts to not wear a bra. It just hurts to sleep on my side, hurts to sleep, period. Hurts to be awake.”
After garnering sympathy from Strong and Friedle, Fishel looked on the bright side.
“You know what? It’s not gonna last forever. Physically, every day now, I’m supposed to be getting better. Fatigue-wise, I am really very stinking tired,” she said.
The child star — known for her role as Topanga Lawrence on “Boy Meets World” — also shared that her doctor told her that she’d feel better in “two to three months.”
She said the doctor advised her to “work out and drink water.”
“I’m sorry. You want me to be tired and take care of myself?” she joked before revealing she was listening to her doctor’s orders.
“I did start working out. I worked out yesterday. I’m gonna work out again on Friday because he said all the working out and drinking water helps my body get rid of all the damage that the radiation did,” she shared.
Fishel told her co-hosts that she will start the hormone therapy Tamoxifen once she recovers from the radiation.
“They didn’t wanna overload me with negative side effects,” she said, noting that radiation was “relatively easy. You don’t really do anything. You just lay there.”
Fishel announced her breast cancer diagnosis in August.
“It is very, very, very early,” she shared at the time. “It’s technically stage zero. To be specific, I was diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with micro-invasion. And I’m going to be fine. I’m having surgery to remove it. I’m going to be on some follow-up treatment. I’ve had to make a lot of decisions over the last couple of days.”
Her husband, Jensen Karp, cheered her on after she shared the news.
“She’s the strongest person I’ve ever met. She’s got this,” he wrote on social media.
Fishel recently made headlines when she met 50 Cent at a meet-and-greet last month during his Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino residency in Las Vegas.
The two posed together at the event — but it was the “In da Club” rapper’s reaction that caused a stir.
“@daniellefishel just said fvck it, shes gonna be fine forever,” 50 captioned the post, adding, “Happy New Year’s Eve. Vegas vibes ! @bransoncognac @lecheminduroi.”
Fishel married Karp in 2018. The pair have two children: Adler, 5, and Keaton, 3.
