Eat your veggies, kids. But for the adults, you can drink them, too.
Greens powders have been popping up all over social media for years, right alongside detox smoothies and prebiotic sodas.
Brands like Beam Greens, Bloom Nutrition, and AG1 are everywhere, transcending TikTok and being mixed into your favorite podcast ads and even on local news stations as the “it” drink mixes to try.

Over the last few years, we’ve tested our share of the supplement (check our vid below from 2023), so we know a thing or two about which ones are best. However, we wanted to check in with the experts to see what they had to say.
We interviewed registered dietician Jennifer Maeng about everything we could think of when it comes to greens, including the health benefits and risks, With her experience as a dietician, author of two nutrition books, and the founder of her own private practice specializing in gut health, who better to ask?
We also reached out to holistic nutritionist and social media influencer Steph Robinson for all her recommendations on the best greens brands to kickstart 2025 off right.

Best Green Powders
Best Greens Powder Overall: Bloom Nutrition Greens and Superfoods Powder
Pros:
- Easy to use
- Easy to drink over ice
- Very aesthetically pleasing packaging
- You can also get the electric mixer on the site
- Highly viral on social media, should you want to join in
Cons:
- Maybe a bit over-hyped
- Note the amount of each ingredient per serving, and the daily value percentage is not included
If you haven’t seen this all over social media … how?!
Bloom Nutrition was one of the first brands to take over TikTok and Instagram, with it-girls Alix Earle and Xandra Pohl amongst the most popular. If Earle is doing it, I wanted to try it too, so I ordered both the original flavor and the mango version of their greens.
Robinson also seems to agree it’s a top greens powder, especially for those working on their gut health.
“This greens powder contains 30 fruits and vegetables, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and adaptogens with a variety of flavors,” she said.
“This is a low-calorie option only containing 15 calories, with 2 grams of dietary fiber and no added sugars. This greens contains three well-researched probiotic strains with one being fructo-oligosaccharides which have been researched to support and improve gut composition.”
Editor’s Note: Looking at the package, I liked that it was user-friendly, with instructions for how to mix on the label. Also looking at the label, key ingredients include four different “blends” — fruit and veggie, antioxidant, digestive, and adaptogen. Included under each are powders like carrot, beetroot, kale, cranberry, tart cherry, and also stevia for some sweetness. During my initial taste test, I did indeed taste some of the stevia, mingling with the greens flavor. It did give off some grassy elements, but it wasn’t unpleasant to drink and would be best over ice.
Key Ingredients: Organic Barley Grass Powder, Organic Spirulina Powder, Cranberry Fruit Powder, Kale Leaf Powder, Blueberry Powder, Licorice Root Extract, More
Top Rated Greens Powder: Athletic Greens (AG1)
Pros:
- Resealable bag and canister for storage
- Pretty mild and has good taste — sweet and fruity
- Easy to drink just over cold water
- Lots of good ingredients
- Ingredients include daily value percentages and more in-depth information
Cons:
- It needs to be mixed very well and drank quickly to avoid separation
- Higher price point, at $79+
Feeling athletic? Athletic Greens, also branded as AG1 is also all over social media, popping up on Instagram and Facebook ads non-stop. The powder kit comes with a 12.7-ounce bag of powder, plus a scoop and a canister for a more aesthetic storage system.
“The most nutrient-dense,” Robinson said of this greens powder. “AG1 is the all-in-one blend of 75 vitamins, minerals, and food-derived nutrients. Also contains probiotics to help support your gut, adaptogens to help with energy and stress levels, and digestive enzymes to support daily digestion. The benefits of this greens powder are endless. Some benefits include: gut health, immunity support, boosting energy, and helping with recovery.”
“They are also NSF certified, meaning they use third-party testing and are free of heavy metals, additives, and other contaminants to ensure you’re consuming the highest quality ingredients,” she continued. “My personal pick is AG1 due to covering all bases being the most all-in-one solution that uses the highest quality ingredients and most intricate thorough testing.”
Editor’s Note: I was surprised at the lighter flavor, with the dark green as a misleading element. It tasted very light and refreshing, with a cleaner, fruity taste. I would drink this in the mornings for a good start to my day. The packaging is easy to read and does indeed include percentages of ingredients and daily value percentages, which is helpful to know. We also made this with just cold water and a mixer, yielding a very dark green color. Ingredients for this mix include vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, and E, in addition to magnesium, zinc, copper, spirulina, wheat grass, apple, chlorella, barley, and more.
Key Ingredients: Spirulina, Alkaline Pea Protein Isolate, Organic Apple Powder, Astragalus Root Powder Extract, More
Best Protein Greens Powder: Sakara Protein Greens Super Powder
Pros:
- Easy to use, with pre-portioned packs to pour into your water
- Good labeling, with daily value percentages and ingredients
- Herbal taste for those that prefer it to a sweeter blend — no artificial sweeteners
Cons:
- Thicker and more chalky — best for a smoothie and not for plain water
We’re back again, Sakara! After trying their meal kit, we also wanted to try their greens, so here you go.
We tried their Proteins + Greens Super Powder, which were easy to use since there is no need for a scooper. It’s a great choice for on-the-go greens, and each pouch contains 12 grams of plant protein. Ingredients also include peas, hemp seed, pumpkin seed, sesame seed, spirulina, wheatgrass, barley grass, and chlorella.
According to Robinson, Sakara is “The best option for plant-powered greens and protein! With their motto being ‘We believe in the power of plants and everything we do is rooted in honoring plants as medicine’ with 12 grams of protein, alkalizing greens, and detoxifying algae to support lean muscle, satiation, and proper liver detoxification. This would make a great all-in-one plant protein-based solution. And it doesn’t have that typical ‘greens powder’ taste.”
Editor’s Note: The consistency and look of Sakara was a bit milky and chalkier than expected, making a light matcha-colored drink despite not containing any milk or dairy and only being mixed with water. It was easy to use, but thicker to drink, so we think to have this over ice or even blended into a smoothie may be the best, as suggested by the package too.
Key Ingredients: Organic Spirulina, Organic Wheatgrass, Organic Barley Grass, Organic Chlorella, Organic Pea Protein, Organic Hemp Protein, Organic Pumpkin Protein
Best Tasting Greens Powder: Daily Greens Plus
Pros:
- Contains Ashwagandha, the adaptogen that combats stress
- Boosts energy with moringa and matcha
- Blends well, plus has no icky aftertaste
Cons:
- Pricey
Robinson has recommended greens powders with a well-rounded list of ingredients, and if there is one in particular that we believe fits the mark, it’s Thorne Daily Greens Plus. Not only is this formula stacked with an assortment of vitamins, minerals, and superfoods, but it also tastes great, according to our reviews.
While the price is on the higher side for some people, Thorne is one of the most reputable wellness brands on the market. It uses quality, researched ingredients and if you were going to include any type of supplement into your routine, we’d recommend going with them. On the back of the jar, you’ll see 28 different ingredients, including a blend of adaptogens, plus antioxidants and vitamins that promote cellular health and increase energy.
Editor’s Note: I don’t believe you can supplement a bad diet, so I’ve never been one for getting my veggies from a pill or powder. What I like about Thorne’s Daily Greens Plus is it’s not about substituting your diet with anything. Rather, it’s enhancing it through a blend of nutrients that aren’t found in the typical American diet.
I tested Daily Green Plus by adding a scoop (the recommended serving) to my protein shakes/smoothies. I have one every day and try to cram it with everything I can: a few scoops of protein powder, fruit, leafy greens — the good stuff. I was impressed that the powder had a pleasant, semi-sweet smell (it contains mango extract and watermelon powder), as opposed to that ‘earthy’ scent many of these powders have. It didn’t change the taste of my protein shake at all. In fact, I think it made it taste slightly better.
The changes I felt were subtle; more sustained energy and less frazzled being the main two. Since the blend has adaptogens, it naturally elevates the body’s ability to tolerate environmental stressors, which may explain why I was less pissy than usual. Matcha and moringa are also part of the ingredient list. Both give energy without the jitters like coffee or a sugary energy drink.
I’ll definitely continue using Daily Green Plus as long as I have it. Anything that can help combat negative signs of aging (that would be the antioxidants and vitamins), plus minimize stress is always a good thing in my book.

Best Budget-Friendly Greens Powder: Your Super Green Mix
Pros:
- Great packaging
- Only six ingredients, and nothing artificial
- Good price point for the amount you get
- Easy to drink, with a floral and fruity taste
Cons:
- It does separate easily, so best to drink right after mixing.
Talk about attractive packaging. The Your Super canister is super cute, with an easy-to-open and re-seal lid and readable ingredients — in fact, there are only six ingredients total! The mix includes celery, Jerusalem artichoke, lemon, apple, lemon balm, and ginger to be exact, and is only 15 calories per serving.
“With a super simple ingredient list, containing no additives, sweeteners or fillers, the mission [with Your Super] is to ‘improve health with the power of super plants,'” Robinson noted. “[It’s] made with six powerful greens sourced from the most nutrient-dense plants on earth. Consumers say this greens is easy to drink and they feel an added boost when consuming.”
Editor’s Note: I actually tried this brand earlier during our juice cleanse trials, loving the golden turmeric latte the best. I saved the Gut Feeling green powder for this review, so here we go. Like the other greens, we added this to plain cold water and gave it a mix — you may need to mix a lot and then drink quickly before it separates. I thought this one was the most floral of the bunch, with fruity notes as well that made it pleasant to drink. I would have loved this over ice, but for a quick drink in the morning, I did indeed think it was super.

Best Super Greens Powder: Live It Up Super Greens
Pros:
- Tastes good
- Organic ingredients
- Affordable
- Vegan, third-party tested, sugar-free, non-GMO
Cons:
- Have to really shake or stir to get the powder to dissolve in the liquid
We all know eating more veggies is smart, but do you always want to chow down on salad? Nope. That’s where Live It Up (formally known as Enso Supergreens) comes in with its line of superfood green powders.
The Super Greens, for example, has more than 20 organic superfoods, as well as digestive enzymes and four probiotics for gut health. We’re talking about spirulina, chlorella, a whole leaf of barley grass, and moringa — the works! Along with having important vitamins like A, C, and a plethora of Bs, the green powder also has key minerals, such as magnesium, iron, and iodine.
Each ingredient has been selected to support energy, and I could always use more of that! One scoop in a glass of milk, water, or juice is all that’s needed to feel like Popeye! And don’t be worried about the taste, because it’s nothing like drinking a salad — or downing a can of spinach!
“This all 100% all-natural organic greens powder contains 20+ natural superfoods that can help promote energy, immunity, digestion, and bloating with no added sugars or artificial sweeteners,” Robinson explained. “This greens powder is also a great cost-effective option.”
Editor’s Note: The taste of the Super Greens is surprisingly pleasant, being slightly sweet and refreshing, especially when mixed with a glass of cold water (as I prepared it). It slightly reminded me of a less abrasive version of matcha, which I like. While I prefer this as part of my morning routine, it also works as a mid-day pick-me-up or a healthier alternative to a sugary coffee drink when you’re feeling peckish.
Key Ingredients: Chlorella, Spirulina, Wheatgrass, Kale, Broccoli, Spinach, Barley Grass, More

Cons:
- Stevia may not be right for everyone
Get all your greens in an on-the-go format.
8Greens excited us, as they offer their greens in a powder stick form as well as in a dissolvable tablet. For consistency in this article, we tried the powder, but I’m very hopeful for the tablets now after this trial.
“This convenient capsule greens powder makes for a great option for travel or someone on the go,” advised Robinson. “Made from eight real greens: spinach, kale, aloe Vera, wheatgrass, blue-green algae, barley grass, chlorella, and Spirulina. With each tablet containing vitamin C, vitamin B6 (with 6 cups of spinach), vitamin b5 (with 15 cups of broccoli), vitamin B12 (with 7 cups of milk), and zinc (3 cups of peas), it’s sugar-free, low calorie (15 calories), and designed to enhance energy, immunity, and health.”
Editor’s Note: I chose the cucumber watermelon flavor and to my surprise, it tasted just like those flavors. I really could have been duped into believing this was a sugary drink mix, but I also do need to note that it does contain stevia as a sweetener.
Key Ingredients: Organic Aloe Vera, Organic Wheatgrass Powder, Organic Barley Grass, Organic Blue Green Algae, Organic Spirulina, and Organic Chlorella
Best Daily Greens Powder for Detox: Cymbiotika Super Greens
Pros:
- Contains iron (ideal for those with low iron levels)
- Refreshing flavor and not overpowering
- Easy to take on the go
- Utilizes sodium copper chlorophyllin which promotes detox at the cellular level
Cons:
- Doesn’t mix as well into water or juice
- The gel consistency is not a preference for everyone
Robinson is a strong advocate for rigorous testing protocols, and one of the few supplement brands to undergo strict, third-party testing for contaminants and toxins is Cymbiotika.
Cymbiotika’s unique approach to supplements — combining scientific innovation with traditional Eastern medicine — helps deliver quality ingredients that fuel the body. Cymbiotika’s Super Greens formula is made with many high-quality superfoods, and natural plant compounds including chlorophyll, glucoraphanin, broccoli seed, and other alkalizing greens. Not only that, but Cymbiotika Super Greens utilizes sodium copper chlorophyllin which promotes detox at the cellular level.
Cymbiotika is also distinctive from some of the others on this list due to its unique jelly-like form, which comes pre-packaged for easy access while on the go. The formula can be slurped, or mixed into the water. We found this form to be super useful for people who travel often or don’t want to make the mess of mixing powders in the kitchen.
Editor’s Note: I hate pills and have never loved chalky powders, so I was particularly excited to try Cymbiotika Super Greens. In fact, it’s not a powder at all. The greens pouch can be squeezed directly into your mouth for no mess and no fuss. It’s super handy when you’re on the way to work, running errands, or heading to the gym. I’ve tried some nasty supplements in my life, but I was impressed with the Citrus Lime flavor. It’s refreshing, not too strong, and it tastes clean.
In terms of long-term effects, I’ve noticed more consistent energy throughout the day when I take my Cymbiotika Super Greens. Sure, it doesn’t feel like the rush you get from a shot of espresso, but I do feel more alert and enthusiastic about my daily tasks in general. I also love the fact that it offers iron. As one of the low-iron girlies, it’s a super easy, low-maintenance way to ensure I’m getting what I need.

The celebrity-loved brand has its own Daily Greens powder, in addition to its line-up of protein and shake mix-ins. Daily Greens comes in a green apple flavor and is completely plant-based.
“This collagen beauty greens powder contains a blend of bovine hide collagen peptides, and greens, and also provides vitamin A, hyaluronic acid, and probiotics,” Robinson noted. “With these ingredients, this can be beneficial for your skin, hair, nails, joints, and gut health.”

How We Tested
While reviewing the best greens powders, we evaluated each supplement on four main criteria — nutritional value, benefits, taste, and overall quality.
Nutritional Value: We analyzed the different ingredients to look for a variety of diverse, yet balanced superfoods — including vegetables, fruits, spirulina, chlorella, wheatgrass, as well as other added benefits like probiotics, prebiotics, and adaptogens. We checked for key micronutrients like Vitamin C, Vitamin K, iron, and magnesium, and also considered whether there were any filler or sweeteners used in the products.
Benefits: In order to provide a realistic guide for those interested in greens powders, we made note of any short-term and long-term side-effects we noticed while taking these formulas — whether that was improved skin, energy boosts, better digestion or overall improvement in mood.
Taste: Everyone has a unique preference when it comes to taste, but we evaluated how sweet, earthy, bitter, or strong each formula was and made note of any standout flavors. To evaluate the ease of preparation, we tried mixing these powders into water, juices, and smoothies. We made note of how easily the powder dissolved in liquid, or if any clumps formed.
Overall Quality: Per expert recommendations, we looked for green powders that were rigorously tested and third-party tested. We browsed reviews to gauge the overall experience had with each powder, and whether there were any quality or packaging issues. Consideration was given to the price and value of each product.
Best Greens Powders FAQ
What is greens powder and what are its benefits?
So yes, it’s green and in a powder form, but what really is inside of the bottles and jars we’ve seen all over social media?
If you choose a high-quality brand, the answer should be a serving of leafy greens like kale or spinach, plus other vitamins and minerals that typically come from veggies and fruits. They are then pulverized into powder form and made to be easily dissolved in water for an on-the-go green drink.
“Green powders are having their moment again because of how user-friendly they are,” said Maeng. “These green powders usually give the consumer some of the vitamins and minerals that they may not be consuming in their diet. We know that consuming adequate amounts of greens and fruit are associated with a healthier life and reduced morbidity. These powders make it easy to add what an individual may need. They are easy to make and a quick solution for someone who may have a busy schedule.”
So why should you trade in your energy drinks for a tall glass of green? Maeng says that while first and foremost, you should be eating right and maybe even adding a high-quality multivitamin to your diet, adding a quality green drink can work, too, if you tend to skip the multi.
“[Greens powders] can be considered like an ‘insurance policy’ and help us meet
nutrients we may be lacking in our diet. Most Americans don’t consume the recommended amount of greens and that can leave us susceptible to deficiencies. Green powders contain nutrients such as zinc, vitamins A, C, E, and antioxidants such as beta carotene and lutein that can boost our immune system,” explained Maeng.
Lastly, a pretty straightforward benefit of these powders can be support for picky eaters who wouldn’t be getting enough fruits and veggies the old fashioned way.
What ingredients should I look for in my greens?
Green ones? Well, actually yes! When looking at the ingredients on a greens powder, they can vary, but many include dark, leafy greens that are a great source of fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants. However, they can also include a plethora of other goodies that you can keep an eye out for when reading the nutrition facts.
“Some green powders may include carrots, blueberries, pomegranate, and even goji berries, all which contain their own powerful phytochemicals,” said Maeng. “Phytochemicals are what give a plant its color and studies associate them with improved health. These blends with additional fruits and vegetables help reduce the incidence of diseases like cardiovascular disease and cancer. If you can, try to buy an organic green powder to avoid any synthetic pesticides or irradiation.”
She also mentions matcha and probiotics as other things to look for in your greens. Matcha, while delicious on its own, is a great anti-inflammatory and also provides caffeine without the crash. As for probiotics, those can never hurt, as they make for a happy gut.
What are some warnings to note when drinking green powders?
All that’s green isn’t gold — that’s how it goes, right?
Kidding aside, when adding a new element to your diet, it’s smart to know what to avoid and how to incorporate it safely. Maeng notes that while greens powders can be great, don’t forget to continue trying to add fresh or frozen fruits and veggies into your diet, too.
“I would still recommend adding frozen or fresh seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables in tandem to get the full nutritional benefits of greens. They contain more fiber than the powdered version and can help with satiety in a more effective way,” added Maeng.
Back to the powders, one thing to avoid?
“Artificial sweeteners!” said Maeng. “As mentioned before, your gut microbiome can benefit from drinking green powders, especially when a probiotic is added. There are studies showing how artificial sweeteners can disrupt healthy bacteria living in our stomach. An unhealthy gut microbiome can lead to poor glucose control, weight gain, metabolic syndrome, sleep issues, and an impaired immune system. Artificial sweeteners may be working against the benefits a green powder may offer.”
