How LA fires are affecting Hollywood: 2025 awards season, TV show delays, concerts and more
Hollywood is feeling the devastating affects of the Los Angeles wildfires.
Not only have A-listers like Anthony Hopkins, Mandy Moore, Billy Crystal and Paris Hilton lost their homes in the fires, but major industry events like award shows, red carpet premieres and concerts have been either postponed or canceled.
The 2025 Critics’ Choice Awards, for example, were slated to take place in Santa Monica on Jan. 12. However, the Chelsea Handler-hosted ceremony has now been pushed back to Jan. 26.
A number of popular television shows have also been forced to pause production amid the crisis in LA.
Here are all the Hollywood events and productions impacted by the wildfires so far.
Award shows
Given that it’s award season, the wildfires have affected the schedules of many award ceremonies, including the 2025 Oscars.
The Academy Awards nominations voting deadline was extended by five days, from Jan. 12 to Jan. 17. The nominations announcement date was also delayed from Jan. 17 to Jan. 23.
The ceremony is still set to take place on March 2 at LA’s Dolby Theatre with Conan O’Brien hosting.
The 2025 Critics’ Choice Awards were delayed from Jan. 12 to Jan. 26.
The 2025 SAG Awards’ in-person presentation of nominations on Jan. 8 was canceled and announced via press release. The ceremony is happening Feb. 23 with Kristen Bell hosting.
Nominations for the Producers Guild Awards, GALECA Dorian Film Awards and Writers Guild Awards were also postponed. The AARP Movies for Grownups Awards was postponed from Jan. 11 to a yet-to-be-announced rescheduled date.
The 2025 Grammy Awards will still take place Feb. 2 at LA’s Crpyto.com Arena, but the show will be dedicated to “raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours,” the Recording Academy confirmed.
Concerts
The Weeknd canceled his concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena that was slated for Jan. 25.
He also delayed the release of his new album, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” from Jan. 24 to Jan. 31.
“Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, the Rose Bowl Show has been cancelled and the album date has been postponed to 01.31.25,” the singer’s social media message read.
Other music-related events canceled by the fires include Schumann & Brahms at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Tommy Emmanuel’s show at Pepperdine University’s Smothers Theatre, the ALTer Ego Show at Kia Forum, Rod Wave’s concert at Intuit Dome and a “Wicked” sing-along screening at the Universal Studios backlot.
In addition, Beyoncé postponed her major Jan. 14 announcement due to the fires.
Premieres
Red carpet premieres for several movies and TV shows were called off as a result of the fires.
The canceled TV premieres include “Severance” Season 2, “The Night Agent” Season 2, “The Pitt” and “A Real Bug’s Life,” while the canceled movie premieres include “Unstoppable,” “Better Man,” “The Last Showgirl,” “Back in Action,” “Wolf Man” and “One of Them Days.”
The Mammoth Film Festival was postponed indefinitely from its planned Feb. 20-24 dates.
TV productions
As of Jan. 14, “Jeopardy!”, “Wheel of Fortune,” “Doctor Odyssey,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Fallout” are still on a production pause due to the fires
Shows that shut down production but have resumed filming include “Abbott Elementary,” “All American,” “The Pitt,” “George & Mandy’s First Marriage,” “Hacks,” “Loot,” “Suits LA,” “Ted,” “Happy’s Place,” “NCIS Origins,” “NCIS,” “The Neighborhood” and “Poppa’s House.”
Late-night shows “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “After Midnight” also briefly paused production. Kimmel returned with an emotional monologue about the fires on Monday night.
The release date of Meghan Markle’s Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan,” was delayed from Jan. 15 to March 4 because of the fires.
