Old tweet from Giants acquisition J.D. Davis goes viral

J.D. Davis is left eating his words after an old tweet resurfaced following his trade to the San Francisco Giants.

Davis was dealt by the Mets several hours ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline in exchange for Darin Ruf. The veteran designated hitter headlined New York’s trade package that also included left-handed pitcher Thomas Szapucki, and prospects Carson Seymour and Nick Zwack.

Not long after the deal was announced, Twitter sleuths uncovered an old tweet sent by Davis in 2012, in which he labeled himself as a die-hard Giants hater and claimed he was “a fan of any team facing the Giants.”

"Don't be mad. It's just one game. I'm a fan of any team facing the giants #diehardgiantshater"

Davis’ condemnation toward his new team likely stems from his Dodgers fandom while growing up in California. It seems as though the 29-year-old has undergone a change of heart, however, over the last 10 years.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to play over there, especially so close to home, being from the West Coast. Grateful for the opportunity.”

The Mets acquired Davis in a trade with the Houston Astros ahead of the 2019 season. Over the course of 335 games with the Amazins, he boasts a .278/.364/.451 slash line alongside 37 home runs and 120 RBIs.
