ARIZONA crime fighter Joe Arpaio, known as “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” paints an unflattering portrait of John McCain in his new book, “Joe’s Law.” Arpaio, known for cracking down on illegal immigrants and forcing inmates to wear pink, says he committed the unforgivable sin of endorsing George W. Bush for president in 2000 over favorite son McCain, The Post’s Carl Campanile reports. “He has a reputation for holding a grudge, and he quickly developed a world-class doozy against me,” Arpaio writes. “On a presidential visit to Arizona . . . McCain consciously turned his back on both the president and myself when we shook hands.” He said McCain got revenge by supporting another candidate against him in a GOP primary during his re-election campaign. But Arpaio prevailed. “It seems a bit weird . . . that a US senator would get so involved in a county race for sheriff,” Arpaio writes.
