Police officers are supposed to protect and serve, but apparently in Martins Ferry, Ohio there is a postscript on that credo that reads: to protect and serve my own greedy self interests. According to several sources, two officers from the sleepy burg allegedly were part of an elaborate plot to break into the home of Sarah Jessica Parker’s surrogate and steal tapes featuring voicemails the actress had left in the hopes of selling them to a tabloid.
The plot proved to be unsuccessful — once co-workers caught wind of their scheme, an investigation was launched, leading to the seizure of several computers and the prevention of any crime taking place.
“Matthew and Sarah Jessica have complete faith in the legal system. But because it’s a criminal investigation — we will not be making any more comment,” their publicist said today. “What I can say is the entire family looks forward to the healthy delivery of their daughters later on this summer.”
As for Police Chief Barry Carpenter and Bridgeport Police Dept. Chief Chad DoJack — the two men accused of trying to break, enter, steal and debase themselves — Chief Carpenter told WTOV: “I’m 100% innocent in this and my department is as well.”
This isn’t the first time SJP’s surrogate has been targeted by a tabloid. “I am incredibly outraged by the sort of extraordinary and unprecedented invasion of her privacy,” Sarah Jessica told Access Hollywood last month.
“The most unsavory things have been done. She’s had her phone hacked, her personal computer information hacked, she’s had threats against her and true harassment… She’s had friends threatened and family threatened and she’s had family of friends threatened. It’s crossed lines… Pretty much all the lines have been crossed.”
Just when you thought people couldn’t sink any lower…
