Dior, yes — Galliano, no

Saks Fifth Avenue has clarified its position on John Galliano after its flagship venue’s general manager, Suzanne Johnson, said everything he designed could disappear from the store. When asked by Web site dot429 if, “in light of John Galliano’s anti-Semitic remarks, would she be taking everything he designed off the racks at Saks?” Johnson responded, “We have values like I hope everyone else has. What happened was not right, and we would not want to carry his merchandise in honor of our customers and my employees that work in the store. That decision is being carried out.” But when we called to check, Saks was keen to clarify things — perhaps to avoid angering LVMH, which owns fashion house Dior. A Saks rep told us that Galliano’s Dior collections would remain on sale, but “John Galliano’s men’s collection, of which we had a small presentation, is no longer on the floor of our New York store.”
