Life has gotten in the way of Christie Brinkley and John Mellencamp’s relationship, so they’ve called it quits after a year of dating.
A source told us that “it was the distance. He really didn’t like coming to New York and she was always on a plane going to his homes in Indiana and Daufuskie,” an island in South Carolina.
A spokeswoman for the former couple confirmed the split to Page Six, saying, “Both the mileage between their homes and their heavy career demands interfered with their ability to maintain the relationship. They vowed to remain best of friends.”
Brinkley — who was married to rocker Billy Joel for nine years — and Mellencamp hit it off after meeting at a party in the Hamptons last summer. Before Brinkley, Mellencamp dated actress Meg Ryan.
Recently, Brinkley, 62, has been busy promoting her own line of prosecco, Bellissima, while Mellencamp, 64, is getting ready to hit the road again next month.
Last month, when Page Six talked to Brinkley at the St. Barth Hamptons Gala, reporters were explicitly told not to ask her about dating or relationships, hinting that all was not well between the pair.
People first reported news of the breakup.
Meanwhile, Brinkley blew off some steam this week as a commenter when Harper’s Bazaar posted an image on Instagram from its new Ivanka Trump profile.
Reactions to a pic of Ivanka along with a brief excerpt from the Bazaar article about dad Donald ranged from, “She is such a strong role model” to “Canceling my subscription.” Brinkley chimed in, posting, “And we all know we can’t seriously consider a hate monger as President. Supporting Trump makes YOU complicit in his racism and bigotry.” Brinkley was at a recent Hamptons fund-raiser for Hillary Clinton.
