Wendell Pierce loses Louisiana home in devastating floods

Wendell Pierce lost his Baton Rouge, Louisiana, home to devastating floods over the weekend. He joins thousands of others now forced to rebuild.

“The Wire” star, 52, shared the news via Twitter Sunday, writing, “My neighbors and I have flooded in Baton Rouge. I am reminded of the generosity given to my family during Katrina. Now we will care for you.”

According to People, his parents lost their Pontchartrain Park home during Hurricane Katrina back in 2005.

Pierce responded to a follower who questioned what people will find of their family heirlooms after the floodwaters recede. “You will find heirlooms @rodderher that will have been changed in a way that brings new meaning to them. Inanimate objects brought to life,” he shared.

ABC News reports that nearly 25 inches of rain fell across portions of southern Louisiana over the weekend. The downpours stranded more than 20,000 and forced more than 11,000 to seek shelter.

The National Guard rescued 3,400 people and 400 pets since rainfall began.

The fatality count has risen to seven.
