Amber accuses Johnny of cutting corners with divorce settlement

Amber Heard is accusing ex-husband Johnny Depp of using some tricky accounting to get out of paying the entire $7 million he owes in their divorce settlement.

After their quickie papers were signed, Heard announced that she would donate the cash to two charities, the American Civil Liberties Union and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. But her team cried foul on Thursday after Depp sent checks directly to the charities rather than giving his ex-wife the money to divide up herself.

Heard’s side says he’ll be able to write off the charitable donations on his tax returns, effectively saving himself millions on the divorce payout.

In a statement, a member of her team said: “Amber Heard appreciates Johnny Depp’s novel interest in supporting two of her favorite charities, the ACLU for domestic violence and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. This is great and unexpected news. However, if Johnny wishes to change the settlement agreement, we must insist that he honor the full amount by donating $14 million to charity, which, after accounting for his tax deduction, is equal to his $7 million payment obligation to Amber.”

They further called the alleged ploy “a transparent attempt by Johnny’s counsel, Laura Wasser and Patti Glaser, to reduce their client’s true payment by half under the guise of newfound concern for charities that he has never previously supported.”

Depp’s rep didn’t get back to us.
