The filmmaker behind “Southside With You” — about Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date in Chicago — is hopeful the president and first lady will see his film.
“John Legend, who’s one of our executive producers, has talked to them about it, so they are aware of it . . . I am pretty sure they have a copy, or the invitation has been extended,” writer-director Richard Tanne told us at a Cinema Society screening on Wednesday. “I hope they get a kick out of it.”
Parker Sawyers, who plays the future president, was careful not to make the role a presidential impression.
“He’s 28 and young and cool, so it was very important to not do the older Obama,” Sawyers said. “He’s younger, he’s looser, he’s not in the public.”
