Ariana Rockefeller got a reminder of her opulent family history when she visited the stunning Caribbean resort once owned by her great-uncle, famed conservationist Laurance Rockefeller.
Equestrian and designer Ariana headed to Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve property in Puerto Rico, to launch a collection of bags created in homage to the resort. She visited Su Casa, the hotel’s preserved former residence of Laurance and, prior to that, of 1930s female pilot Clara Livingston, where Amelia Earhart stayed overnight ahead of her 1937 last flight.
Ariana told Page Six, “In 1958, Laurence bought the property and developed it, and it was part of his vision of . . . destinations that were at one with nature but also had their own elegance. They’ve done a wonderful job keeping his passion for natural beauty.”
In the 1960s, Dorado Beach was a playground for Hollywood royalty including Elizabeth Taylor and Ava Gardner.
Last weekend, the five-star hideaway, which reopened in 2012, played host to a new generation of actors, models and fashion faces. Spotted were “Billions” star Malin Akerman, with actor boyfriend Jack Donnelly, rocker Rob Thomas, Andrew Saffir and Daniel Benedict, Greg Calejo and models Coco Rocha, Alex Lundqvist, Jake Davies and Sophie Sumner.
