No, Jack Antonoff didn’t brown bag it to the VMAs.
Twitter went into a tizzy when the singer was caught on camera chomping on a banana while sitting in the audience of the awards show. Even his girlfriend, Lena Dunham, couldn’t help but lovingly tweet: “My boyfriend just casually eating a banana at the VMAs is a good reminder of why we’ve been at it half a decade,” and, “He’s a true weirdo 😍.”
But Antonoff didn’t stop with the potassium-packed snack. He also chowed down on a sandwich — and FaceTimed Dunham, who was not at the show, while eating it. “Boo at the VMAs with a sandwich like the prince he is,” Dunham wrote on Instagram later in the night.
So where did he get the grub? Antonoff likely picked it up from the green room, which we’re told is stocked with fruit and snacks. Before sitting in the audience and munching on the banana and sandwich, Antonoff performed during the pre-show with his band Bleachers.
Back at the 2013 VMAs, Harry Styles caused another fruit-related fan frenzy by peeling and eating an orange while in the audience.
