Mark Wahlberg shows no mercy to A-Rod after World Series bet
Mark Wahlberg is thanking his lucky Red Sox that his beloved team took this year’s World Series title — even if he wasn’t awake for much of it.
“I’ve been going to bed at 6:30, so I watched three outs of the first inning when they were playing Game 3, and I went to bed,” the actor said Tuesday on “Ellen” of the game day schedule. “I woke up at 3 in the morning in New York and the game was on, and I was like, oh, they’re playing the game. It was like no, it’s the 18th inning.”
Boston fell to the Dodgers in Game 3 after seven hours and 20 minutes of play. They came back with a vengeance in Games 4 and 5.
“I’m pretty superstitious, so once I didn’t watch and they won, I would just check the scores in the morning,” Wahlberg, 47, explained.
As for his bet with former Yankee Alex Rodriguez, Wahlberg said he put the famed Red Sox foe to work.
“He had to come to Wahlbergers and basically do whatever my brother Paul told him. So Paul basically started him cleaning bathroom floors. He was cooking on the grill, flipping burgers, making drinks. He was doing it at our Fenway Park location,” Wahlberg said.
Though Rodriguez, 43, made friends with Red Sox fans, Wahlberg is grateful he didn’t have to embarrass himself in the Bronx.
“I made the mistake of saying that I would go and perform ‘Good Vibrations’ in my underwear at Yankee Stadium,” he revealed. “Thankfully I don’t have to deliver on that bet.”
Marky Mark dropped “Good Vibrations” with the Funky Bunch back in 1991.
