His burger platform was well done, but former New York Times Style columnist Bob Morris lost his bid to become mayor of Bellport, LI, last month in a landslide. The incumbent mayor, Ray Fell, won by a vote of 420 to 140.
Then again, it was a high-turnout election, as 250 residents voted in the last mayoral race, according to the Long Island Advance.
Morris, who’s reportedly considering a run for a village trustee seat, was spotted co-hosting a recent packed art opening at gallery Marquee Projects. As artist Cacho Falcon showed off his body-painting skills, popular Morris and other guests were to perform poems about the human body. The June 29 show, “Body,” was part of an ongoing Writer-Artist Collaboration series.
Morris’ political platform included bringing burger service back to a local beach — one of many chewy topics on which the candidates were grilled during an open-air debate last month in the town, where regulars include Isabella Rossellini, Charlie Rose and former Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa.
