Canadian authorities are remaining tight-lipped in the investigation of the fatal boat crash involving Kevin O’Leary — and won’t say whether he’ll face criminal charges, according to a report.
“The investigation is just ongoing and they’re not releasing anything until the end of the investigation,” Constable Joe Scali of the Ontario police told the Toronto Sun after investigators met Tuesday to determine the probe’s progress.
A boat carrying the “Shark Tank” star and his wife Linda collided with another vessel Aug. 24 on Lake Joseph, located some 130 miles north of Toronto.
The accident left Gary Poltash, 64, and Suzana Brito, 48, of Toronto dead.
O’Leary has claimed the other boat — a larger, 13-person vessel — lacked “navigational lights” and “fled the scene.” A spokesman for the “Shark Tank” star said the businessman’s wife was behind the wheel.
But police had a different account.
“Both vessels had left the scene and when they reached the location, both vessels were in touch with ambulance for emergency services,” police spokesman Joe Scali has said.
O’Leary’s wife, who the star said had been driving their boat at the time of the crash, passed a DUI test.
Scali said investigators were still sifting through witness statements and other evidence.
Sources have told the newspaper that video – whose contents remain a mystery — had been turned over to investigators, but Scali would not comment on any footage.
“This is a regular, normal investigation, looking at all the aspects — we have marine technical experts,” he said.
The investigators are reportedly looking into exactly where everyone was sitting at the time of the collision.
“They have their means of matching everything up with injuries sustained by people [and] what caused the injuries puts them where they were seated,” Scali added. “If (charges are) warranted, the only way to get there is getting everything completed.”
