Patricia Arquette honors Alexis Arquette during 2019 Emmy acceptance speech

Patricia Arquette demanded equal rights for the transgender community during her Emmy Awards speech on Sunday night.

“In my heart, I’m so sad I lost my sister Alexis and that trans people are still being persecuted,” the 51-year-old actress told the audience. “I’m in mourning every day of my life, Alexis and I will be the rest of my life for you until we change the world so that trans people are not persecuted and give them jobs.”

Arquette, who took home the award for supporting actress in a limited series or movie for “The Act,” continued, “They are human beings, let’s give them jobs. Let’s get rid of this bias that we have everywhere.”

Alexis Arquette was 47 when she passed away in 2016 of a heart attack after a long battle with HIV.

It’s not the first time Patricia addressed equality on the awards stage.

In 2015, she used her on-stage Oscar moment to demand equality.

“To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s rights,” she said. “It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America.”
