Tim Allen fine with being butt of Ricky Gervais’ only regretted Golden Globes joke

The hottest ticket in Hollywood last week was not for the Golden Globes — but for the rehearsals (at least for personal publicists).

Although they were closed, some managed to sneak in so they could prepare their clients for host Ricky Gervais’ inevitable barbs. And while some of the material was brutal, at least one flack admitted they secretly loved the cracks made at their bosses’ expense.

Gervais recently told the Hollywood Reporter that of all his outrageous jabs, the only quip he regrets is one that appeared to be directed at Tim Allen. But Allen told us he wasn’t offended. In 2011, Allen presented an award with Tom Hanks, and Gervais introduced them by saying, “The first [presenter] is an actor, producer, writer and director whose movies have grossed over $3.5 billion at the box office. The other is Tim Allen.”

But after this year’s ceremony, Allen told us at the InStyle/Warner Bros. party: “Perhaps I didn’t get it … I wasn’t the only one. Tom and I even said [at the time]: ‘I didn’t really get it. It’s like he didn’t finish the joke. It just went flat.’ Later that night he said, ‘It didn’t go so well.’ He kind of apologized.”

Allen told us he never held any ill will, and that on Sunday, “I thought he was pretty sharp. A couple of things made me laugh out loud.”
