Erika Girardi’s husband, Tom, held in contempt of court in Lion Air settlement suit
Erika Girardi’s husband and his law firm were placed in civil contempt of court on Monday.
A federal judge found that Tom Girardi and his Girardi Keese law firm failed to listen to court orders by not being able to explain where funds went in the Lion Air flight settlement, a source told Page Six on Monday.
Federal court documents confirmed the contempt and a $2 million judgment against them, while the source noted that the judge ordered Tom and his firm’s assets frozen as the case is ongoing.
Erika, 49, and Tom, 81, were sued by Edelson PC, a class-action firm, on behalf of the 2018 Lion Air flight victims earlier this month for allegedly embezzling the funds and attempting to conceal it through their “sham” divorce. The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star — also known by her stage name, Erika Jayne — filed for divorce in November after two decades of marriage.
The suit claimed Tom and his law firm “are on the verge of financial collapse and locked in a downward spiral of mounting debts and dwindling funds” due in part to his “need to fund outrageous lifestyles for himself and his soon-to-be ex-wife Erika Jayne.”
“While Erika publicly filed for divorce this month, on information and belief, that ‘divorce’ is simply a sham attempt to fraudulently protect Tom’s and Erika’s money from those that seek to collect on debts owed by Tom and his law firm GK,” the lawsuit alleged.
Erika’s rep declined to comment on the matter at the time.
