Jennifer Lopez’s documentary about Ben Affleck marriage was his idea: source

Jennifer Lopez’s documentary about her marriage to Ben Affleck was his idea, sources close to the former couple tell Page Six.

Affleck’s company Artists Equity was the brains behind “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” our insiders say, further claiming Lopez’s team did not want to make the project since she was focused on her album “This Is Me…Now” and its accompanying fictional Amazon film, “This Is Me…Now: A Love Story.”

Sources also told People that the “Gone Girl” actor was heavily involved in the creative process for the “I’m Real” singer’s doc, which was released in February.

“He was the one who had control, pretty much,” one insider told the magazine.

“[Affleck] was very much in favor [of the project], and he was a driving force for [Lopez] to do the movie and the album and then he insisted on the documentary, where it looked like he was hesitant and almost surprised by it. But that was a false narrative.”

Another insider told People the “Good Will Hunting” star was “very supportive of [Lopez] making the movie and her album” and “knew every step of the way what she was doing.”

“He loved the movie and album, but when you look at the doc, it looks like he’s surprised by it and not signing up for it. He was playing the role of playing the regular guy and, meanwhile, he was the engine in back of it,” the source said, adding that Affleck “took it away from the director so he could have the narrative he wanted out there.”

The “Selena” actress, 55, and Affleck, 52, sparked breakup rumors three months after the documentary’s release.

Following months of speculation and rumors, Lopez filed for divorce from the dad of three on Aug. 20 after two years of marriage.

The pop star listed their date of separation as April 26 — though Page Six learned their marriage had been over since March.

Lopez cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split.

A friend of the mom of two told exclusively Page Six that she did everything she could to save their marriage but claimed Affleck “has a darkness to him.”

Lopez and the “Good Will Hunting” actor tied the knot in July 2022.
