Angelina Jolie was brought to tears after receiving an eight-minute standing ovation following the world premiere of her new film, “Maria,” at the Venice Film Festival in Italy Thursday.

Audience members were seen standing and clapping as they cheered for the actress for at least eight solid minutes, according to reports.

The “Maleficent” star portrays Greek opera singer Maria Callas in the biographical drama.

Ahead of the event, Jolie paid tribute to Callas by attending a photo call wearing a Cartier Panthère pin that belonged to the legendary soprano.

“I chose not to copy [Maria’s] looks because they are hers, and her Venice carpets were stunning, so I gave a little nod to her — in a different way,” she told Vogue, adding, “You can imagine how special it was to wear a piece of jewelry that was hers.”

The humanitarian also honored her memory earlier in the day by wearing a brown Grecian-style Saint Laurent gown that nodded to Callas’ onstage costumes with its draped style.

Her well-received performance has already inspired Oscar buzz, according to several outlets like Variety and The New York Times.

In 2000, Jolie won the best supporting Oscar for her role in “Girl, Interrupted.” Nine years later, she received an Academy Award nomination for best actress for her role in the 2008 crime drama, “Changeling.”
