From the bridge party it progresses to the theater and banquet hall with the designing clubman. The husband's suspicions are aroused by overhearing a telephone conversation with the rascal in the sanctuary of his club, but he still hopes to win his wife back. When she comes from a party that he has refused one night after he has rocked his child to sleep, he awakens at an early morning hour as she enters the room. He smells liquor on her breath and is about to violently eject her from her home, while she cringes in terror, convinced that he is going to kill her.
