He has just received a letter from his wife telling of her struggle against starvation. She does not complain for her sake but their child's; she pleads for some kind of help. She also tells him that Billy-Lo, a supposed family friend, frequently calls at the house. As Lee reads the letter, he recalls the incidents leading up to his arrest: His old pal Billy-Lo had gone wrong and Lee was always trying to reform him. One day Billy-Lo shot a policeman and ran into Lee while escaping; Lee upbraided him for some misdeeds, and while he talked, Billy-Lo slipped the revolver he used to shoot the policeman into Lee's pocket, and the police found it on him and jailed him. Lee sinks on his cot, and examines a file which he has hidden. The next day Billy-Lo reads of Lee's escape and notices the offer of a $500-reward for his capture. Billy-Lo knows where to find Lee and heads there. Meanwhile, Lee has managed to reach his home and he orders his wife to prepare to flee with him. Billy-Lo comes, and Lee hides in the closet. Lee's wife tells Billy-Lo her husband is not there, but as he starts to leave he notices Lee's hat, draws his gun, and orders Lee to come out. There is a fight, Billy-Lo is knocked out, and Lee throws him into the closet. Lee, learning of the reward for his capture, tells his wife that he could never escape. He forces her to 'phone the officers that she has captured Lee Blount. The officers arrive and he is taken in charge. The wife is given the money and just as they start to leave the child opens the door and Billy-Lo is discovered--he has died from the fight, and the officers take both Lee and his wife. But it was all only a dream. The warden enters to tell Lee that Billy-Lo has confessed and he is free. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
