In Demeter's Folly we see DEMETER searching for her daughter PERSEPHONE in order to allow her escape form the underworld and safe return home. As the story goes, HADES only relents to letting his betrothed return if she eats six pomegranate seeds (one for each month that she must live alongside him in the underworld). Thusly creating the season of winter, when Persephone returns to him and Demeter casts the chilling winter months to cast over the Earth as she laments her daughter's annual seasonal absence. See less
