Karolina, a survivor of Auschwitz II-Birkenau, is hopeful that this day will provide a brief respite from her emotional turmoil and help her to reconnect with the girl she was before the Holocaust. This is upended, however, as figments of Karolina's past plague her, as the fissure between her life and Jozéf's is drawn into sharp focus, and as he makes a life-altering proposition: that she move to America with him.
