3.0 out of 5 starsWAY TOO SHINY for "Brushed Stainless"
Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2016
To maintain the high-end, high-tech look of our kitchen, I want a food processor that will blend/match perfectly with our stainless steel appliances. DUH! The "Brushed Stainless" finish of this Cuisinart DLC-2009CHBMY is WAY MORE SHINY than shown in the Cuisinart stock product photo on amazon and on the box! I expected the finish to be like that of our Cuisinart Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill (coffee bean grinder), which matches perfectly with our stainless steel appliances. This Burr Mill is still available; the finish listed on the Cuisinart website is "Aluminum," which is the SAME FINISH they specify for this food processor. So, why does the finish on the actual food processor look completely different?
I called Cuisinart Customer Support to get an answer or find another model of their food processors with a finish more like brushed stainless steel appliances. All they had were apologies for the photo not matching what's actually inside the box, could not say if ANY of their other processors have a finish more like brushed stainless steel, and offered no resolution other than returning the item. ARE THEY KIDDING???
Their almost identical, larger capacity (11-cup) Cuisinart DLC-2011CHB Prep 11 Plus rates second highest out of 36 food processors tested by Consumer Reports and was one of four given their "Recommended Model" designation. The only other processor to be top-rated and granted CR's "Recommended Model" designation" (and also happens to have a brushed stainless steel-like finish) is the 16-cup Breville Sous Chef BFP800XL/A, retailing for $349.78 - $579.99. OUCH!
If creating or maintaining the high-end look in your kitchen is important, and you want a better bang for your buck with a Cuisinart, I highly recommend that you check for floor models of the their food processors at brick+mortar retailers so you can see exactly what you’ll be getting when you buy from amazon or any other online site.
So, I’m keeping this very good Cuisinart DLC-2009CHBMY food processor that sticks out like a sore thumb (unless I hide it under a dust cover or in the pantry) for 26% - 43% less than the top-rated Breville. AND I’m going to try to knock down the shine on it with fine-grit sandpaper. Preliminary tests of the latter using a fingernail file were very promising, and I think this will be well worth my time.
