A Holywood bar is to receive an entertainment licence for music nights.
Elected representatives at an Ards and North Down Council committee this week approved an application for the grant of an entertainment licence for Monroe, 62a High Street, Holywood. The applicant is Gerald Clancy, of Holywood, Co Down.
The licence applies during the permitted hours Monday to Sunday, when alcohol may already be served on the premises.

Council officers recommended elected representatives grant the licence to Monroe, subject to a satisfactory final inspection by its Licensing and Regulatory Services and the NI Fire and Rescue Service. There were no objections from the PSNI or the council’s Environmental Health department.
A council report states the licence pertains to “dancing, singing or music or any other entertainment of a like kind”.
Monroe on its website describes itself as “a neighbourhood bar.” It adds: “Tucked away off Holywood’s High Street, Monroe is a sophisticated bar serving seasonal drinks, classic cocktails, and great food in a space tailor-made for fine drinking.”
UUP Councillor Linzi McLaren said at the Environment Committee: “I think it is really important that Holywood is seen as a destination, for people to spend an entire evening there, as opposed to going there for a quick drink, and then moving on to Bangor.
“So I think it is great that there is going to be a bar/restaurant there that will be able to provide entertainment long into the night.”
