    As an independent, nonprofit organization, CR has been making a positive impact for consumers for nearly 90 years. In the face of greater corporate power and gridlocked government, our work has never been more relevant than it is today. As a nonprofit, CR does not accept advertising; we therefore rely on our donors and funders to help us achieve our mission. Thanks to your trust and support, CR is able to fight boldly for a better marketplace that puts consumers first.

    With our trusted research and scientific expertise, we equip people with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed choices—and take action.

    We go directly to companies and policymakers to make sure they are listening to the voices of consumers. And we press them to raise the bar for safety, sustainability, and fairness.

    We are proud to have received top designations from Charity Navigator and Candid. CR was also named in Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies for 2024 – one of only 10 honored in the not-for-profit category.

    CR has also been approved by courts as a cy pres recipient in class action lawsuits. We strongly believe that funds from class action settlements should go to those affected. Where that is not possible, CR supports the use of remaining funds to protect consumers, as we have done when we received and used funding from more than 65 cy pres awards since the early 1980s, including 19 in the past five years. Our north star is that everyone can make safe, sustainable decisions confidently in a marketplace built to serve their needs.
