The Scottish Cup offers Hearts a chance to salvage something from a season fans will want to forget.

The Jambos will see a tie with Brechin City as a great chance to boost confidence and get supporters dreaming of a cup run. But Highland League sides have a habit of haunting the Edinburgh side, as Brora Rangers can attest. Neil Critchley's men were visibly disappointed after the 0-0 draw against Aberdeen, leaving them languishing in 11th place in the Premiership. But things can change quickly with a cup win and a positive run of league results. It could even see them leapfrog Dundee, who are in seventh place just three points ahead.

The Highland League side, meanwhile, top their standings and can count on a sell-out crowd to roar them on, whilst also aiming for a return to the SPFL this season. The Hedgemen have good reason to believe David will beat Goliath with five wins in their last six, they powered through extra time to beat Cowdenbeath 4-1 in the last Scottish Cup round thanks to a hat-trick from former Hearts man Brad McKay. Ex Celtic striker Cillian Sheridan meanwhile will add a throwback feel to the occasion after he signed with the Angus club in December, and they have experience throughout their ranks capable of causing issues.

Record Sport tells you everything you need to know about a tie that has all the hallmarks of a potential upset.

Team news

Brechin City boss Patrick Cregg can call on the likes of Cillian Sheridan, Dayle Robertson and Brad Mckay to hurt the Jambos backline. Sheridan has made two appearances but is yet to get off the scoresheet.

Kye Rowles departure to the MLS and DC United is a bitter blow but Zander Clark has signed a new deal. Neil Critchley may rotate the squad so the likes of Clark and Jamie McCart may get to start.
