It was a bittersweet moment for Gavin and Stacey fans on Christmas Day as the BBC series really did come to an end.
Nessa (played by Ruth Jones) and Smithy (James Corden), who have had an on-off relationship since the beginning of the series, finally tied the knot - and it's safe to say they definitely gave Ross and Rachel [from Friends] a run for their money.
In 2019, after the Christmas special ended on a cliffhanger, fans knew James and Ruth couldn't leave the show that way - and let's face it, we wanted to know whether Smithy said yes to Nessa's proposal (he didn't).
When I sat down to watch the finale, I was dubious—could it live up to my expectations, especially if this really was going to be the last episode?
It did.
One thing I will say about the 90-minute episode is that I felt it wasn't as funny as the previous series or Christmas specials. I probably cried more than I laughed, but there was a good reason: this was a chance for the cast to say a proper goodbye to their characters.
From start to finish, there were laughs, gasps, and plenty of tears, and when Smithy's bride turned out to be Sonia (Laura Aikman), I couldn't believe it.
As James and Ruth promised, there were plenty of twists and turns despite us never finding out what really happened on that fishing trip.

Along with the entire nation, I screamed at my television when Sonia and Smithy walked down the aisle, and I waited with bated breath for Gavin (Mathew Horne) to finally speak up (thank goodness he did).
And let's not forget that Smithy and Nessa's romance wasn't the only shocker; what about Gwen and Dave Coaches? That definitely wasn't what I predicted at all, but it was about time Gwen found love at long last.
As for the proposal and the ending, it couldn't have been more perfect.
Just when I think Ruth and James are going to leave us on another cliffhanger, Smithy finally realises his true feelings and proposes to the mother of his child.
Before the credits roll, the gang gets back together once more to celebrate Nessa and Smithy's marriage in style - down the pub.
The finale concludes with a simple photograph being taken, and it's the moment we realise that this really is the end of Gavin and Stacey.
"Tell me tomorrow, I'll wait by the window for you."
