A woman who reached out for some hair guidance was left gobsmacked when her plea turned into a troll fest.

We all need a bit of help now and then, especially when it comes to our barnet. We just want to look fab, don't we?

This is what inspired the anonymous woman to turn to Reddit, hoping for some solid advice after two decades of dyeing her tresses. She posted a snap of her blonde hair with dark roots peeking through, and shared her hair woes with the world.

The only thing was, she wasn't ready for the internet's reaction, as it all went absolutely bonkers.

Alongside her photo, she wrote: "So I'm a natural brunette, who has dyed her hair for nearly 20 years (used to just be highlights, then moved to balayage, now full blonde). The thing is I'm really bad at going in often to get my roots touched up, but everyone kind of loves my grown out roots, but the thing is they notice and they tell me.

"Should I go back to balayage? Is there something else I should try (root smudge or something else I'm not aware of)? I'm currently doing a botanical hair repair treatment from Aveda."

She continued: "I wash my hair about twice a week and switch between a moisturising Paul Mitchell shampoo and a purple shampoo. I do a deep conditioning mask once a week and then a purple conditioner the other wash day.

"I end my showers cold, so I close the hair follicle. I do a k18 treatment about every other week.

"My roots never match my length after my girl bleaches the roots (should she be toning them differently, roots vs length? ) I need some guidance I'm going to see her on the 21st to get rid of these roots. I really like being blonde but not sure I'm up for the maintenance schedule."

After sharing her post, it quickly attracted hundreds of comments and soon enough people began trolling her. The response was not what she had anticipated, though.

One person advised: "It needs cut off absolutely. Nothing you put on it will bring it back to life and it'll be a waste of money. But if you'd like to stay blonde, I recommend switching to a high lift colour instead of bleach. Ask your stylist to switch.

"It usually will not be level 10 banana yellow blonde but you can still get to a level 9-7 with a high lift root touch up done every 4-6 weeks. If you do this you have to go every 4 weeks because the heat of the scalp is what activates the lightening agent in high lift colour if you don't you'll have banding because of too much regrowth."

Another added: "This may come off rude but I'm just trying to be blunt because I see so many people ruin their hair trying to maintain a bleach blonde look. Your hair looks fried and damaged.

"I would really recommend just dying it all brown, maybe with some highlights and then just letting it chill out. I promise healthy hair, no matter the colour, looks way better than crusty, damaged blonde."

A third replied: "I agree. It's the same answer every time; stop bleaching/dying. It's the only way to stop the excessive damage. So many people would have beautiful hair if they embraced their natural colour."

Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "It's not rude. I'm a natural blonde, and it kills me seeing women fry their hair to be all blonde. It's unbelievable the amount of yellow, crusty blonde I see.

"ESPECIALLY when a light brown with some highlights would look absolutely gorgeous and much better than the blonde they try to pull off. A nice money piece to frame the face too. It would look so beautiful on OP. Healthy hair is 1000x prettier than damaged blonde."
