Glastonbury gets 'everything we could wish for' as Rod Stewart gets 'cult' stage time
Maggie May hitmaker Sir Rod Stewart has announced he's playing the famous Sunday night Legends slot at Glastonbury 2025, telling fans he's "absolutely thrilled" to be on the bill
Glastonbury Festival will be Sailing to the tune of Rod Stewart next summer.
The Scottish rocker returns to Worthy Farm for the hallowed Sunday Legends slot, some 23 years after he last headlined the event. The 79-year-old, who recently admitted there will be no more “large scale world tours” from him, said he was “proud, ready and more than able to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury.”
Rod follows in the footsteps of past legends Diana Ross, Dolly Parton and Kylie Minogue by rocking the teatime slot; but he’s the first to do so after properly headlining the Pyramid stage as well. Glasto head Emily Eavis called it “everything we could wish for“ adding “what a way to now out begore we take a fallow year” referring to the year off the event will take in 2026.

In recent years the Legends slot has garnered the biggest crowds of Glasto with fans dressing up in honour of the performer, encouraging a sea of cowboy hats for Shania Twain and disco out outfits for Barry Gibb.
If his 2002 set is anything to go by fans will be treated to multiple costume changes from Rod who switches from leopard print leggings to white fluffy coats while croons hits Do Ya Think I’m Sexy and Maggie May. One ticket holder, clearly with a blonde wig in the attic, commented: “easiest Glastonbury outfit ever!”
Rod will be hoping he can bag his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood for a guest spot too, Rolling Stones dates permitting. Not everyone was impressed with one fan commenting: “the irony of having Rod Stewart and the word contemporary on the same poster is real.”
Announcing his place on the Legends slot, Rod wrote on Instagram: "I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that I’ll be playing @glastofest 2025! After all these years, I’m proud and ready and more than able to take the stage again to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury in June. I’ll see you there!"
Organisers were rumoured to be looking at Alanis Morissette for the 2025 legends and industry whispers for the rest of next year’s line up include Olivia Rodrigo, Lady Gaga, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX and The 1975.
A few resale tickets for Glasto will go on sale in the New Year.
