Police have closed a road after unconfirmed reports of a blaze which has "destroyed" a home.
Officers and firefighters are at the scene of the fire on Thornaby Road in Thornaby and have blocked off a section of the road from Gilpin Road to Beechwood Road. According to witnesses, firefighters are currently carrying out investigations at the property and the downstairs of the home has been badley damaged.
One witness said: "All the windows and everything downstairs is fully blackened, downstairs is all destroyed. firefighters are going in and out." Witnesses said a police car is stationed at the scene as well as two fire engines. Witnesses said traffic is beginning to build as a traffic diversion is not yet in place.

Patient taken to hospital with smoke inhalation
A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Cleveland Fire Brigade were called on 23/12/24 at 15.23pm to an incident on Thornaby Road, Thornaby. House fire. Three fire engines from Thornaby and Stockton attended the incident. One casualty with smoke inhalation was transported to hospital by the North East Ambulance Service. 100% fire and smoke damage to both floors. We got the stop at 16.21pm.”
Firefighters confirm '100% fire and smoke damage to whole property'
Cleveland Fire Brigade has confirmed three fire engines from Stockton and Thornaby attended the scene at around 3.22pm on Monday.
The brigade incident log states there was "100% fire and smoke damage to whole property", it reads: "House Fire - four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and two thermal image cameras in use. 100% fire and smoke damage to whole property.
Crews left the scene at 4.55pm.
Emergency services contacted for comment
Cleveland Police confirmed they have closed Thornaby Road after officers recieved reports of a house fire just before 3.30pm.
Cleveland Fire Brigade has yet to comment. Three 999 vehicles remain at the scene.

Police confirm fire and road closure
Police have confirmed they were called to reports of a house fire just before 3.30pm. A spokesperson said: "We have closed Thornaby Road due to a house fire which was reported just before 3.30pm."

Two fire engines are stationed at the scene. Teesside Live has contacted Cleveland Fire Brigade for comment.
