A young woman who died in a Caterham dog attack has been named as Natasha Johnston. The 28-year-old died on January 12 following the reported attack at Gravelly Hill close to a local beauty spot in the Surrey town.

Miss Johnston's name was listed on the Surrey Coroner's Court website on Monday (January 30). Her inquest is expected to formally open on Tuesday (January 31).

Eight dogs were seized by police at the scene and continue to remain in police custody where they have been subject to forensic tests. None of the dogs were banned breeds and no prosecutions have been brought forward by Surrey Police, who confirmed last week they have now closed their investigation.

Armed officers and the National Police Air Service (NPAS) were dispatched to Gravelly Hill by police after they received reports of a dog attacking people at 2.45pm. Miss Johnston was declared dead at the scene and another woman was rushed to hospital but has since been discharged, police said.

Speaking last week, Detective Inspector Josephine, the senior investigating officer, said: “I know it has caused real concern locally and I thank the community for bearing with us whilst we conducted our enquiries.

“The criminal investigation has now concluded and the information we have gathered will be passed to the Surrey Coroner to assist in the coronial process.

“The dogs continue to be cared for at private kennels to ensure their welfare and their owners are being kept informed. We appreciate this is a difficult and uncertain process for them as the forensic work continues.”
