A new CCTV image has been released as investigations into a suspected arson attack in Aldershot continue. Police were called to a commercial property off Eastern Road, following a call from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service at 12.37am on New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1).

Officers from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary assisted with road closures while fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze. There were no reported injuries, however the fire caused “extensive damage” to one unit and four cars that were parked outside.

Following a thorough examination of the scene and further enquiries, the incident is being treated as an arson attack. Investigating officers have released the above image of a man they wish to speak to in relation to the fire and are urging anyone who recognises him to get in touch.

Detective Constable Andy Robinson said: “This was a fire that caused a substantial amount of damage, as well as disruption to the local community. As part of our enquiries, we would like to identify the man in the CCTV image.

“He was seen at the commercial unit at the time of this incident. We know the image is not of the greatest quality, but if you recognise him, or have any other information about what happened, then please contact us.

“Additionally, we would like to hear from anyone who was driving in the area at this time and who has dashcam footage that could help our enquiries. We’d also like to hear from any resident or business nearby that has door bell footage or CCTV that could help us.”
