Three are overnight road closures in Surrey this week along the M25 and the M3. National Highways organise closures while it is quiet on major routes, for repair work and urgent maintenance to keep roads safe.

While drainage and resurfacing works are common overnight on the M25 in certain busy spots like near Wisley, Staines, Heathrow and Caterham, it is relatively quiet this week. However, closures are mainly taking place on the A3 throughout the week.

For example, sections of the road at the Hogs Back near Guildford will close, particularly on exit and entry slip roads. For example, the Hindhead Tunnel will shut northbound one evening.

When one side of the Hindhead Tunnel shuts in one direction, it will operate with contraflow in the other direction, which is where traffic will flow in two directions down two lanes on one side of the tunnel.

However, some routes in Surrey will be entirely shut down overnight, like near Painshill, and at Ockham. In these areas, National Highways will organise diversion routes, using yellow boards to direct drivers on a safe route.

At Ockham, the A3 exit slip road will shut on the eastern side from 10pm until 5am the following morning. Traffic travelling from Ripley to the A3 heading north should remain unaffected.

According to the National Highways, there will be no right turn for traffic exiting Mill Lane, and there will be a diversion to the M25, towards Wisley Interchange’s junction 10 and back. On the A3 southbound, drivers will be diverted via the A3 to Burpham’s Clay Lane northbound to the B2215 at Ripley.
