New flood alerts added to Surrey map as Met Office issues fresh rain warning after Storm Ciarán

Further flood warnings and alerts have been issued across Surrey as river levels continue to rise in areas including Leatherhead and Weybridge. The River Wey in Guildford and Godalming and the River Mole near Horley and Gatwick Airport already had cautions in place.

A total of three warnings and four alerts have been issued by the Environment Agency (EA) and are in addition to 10 alerts put in place due to Storm Ciarán. It means that residents have been told flooding is expected in places and to “act now”, while others have been told flooding is possible.

Wind and rain on Thursday (November 3) from Storm Ciarán meant travel was disrupted on trains and there was significant disruption in the A3 near Guildford after a crash. The Met Office has extended its yellow weather warning for rain on Saturday (November 4) and warned heavy rain or showers will fall on saturated ground.

Forecasters at the Met Office said: “Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer.” They added: “Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible.” The yellow rain warning will be in place for 19 hours from 5am to midnight.

Residents in Dunsfold have been told flooding is now expected in the area and they should “act now”, according to the EA. A flood warning has been issued that said: “Flooding is expected in this area. This means properties are at risk of flooding.
