Unique fairytale cottage on sale in Surrey village where previous owner 'demanded everyone left'

This is a dream cottage in an idyllic setting

A quaint stone cottage made of stone and brick, situated in the grounds of a grand mansion built in the 17th century is up for sale in Surrey. The prestigious grounds of Albury Park were once associated with the Royal Family, famously the site of King George III’s coronation banquet.

Now you can own a slice of incredible history yourself for £565,000, on the privately gated estate. Albury Park is located in the village of Albury, which is nestled in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Driving through an ornate archway and formal grounds, you reach the homely cottage with a courtyard at the front and stately front door. Stepping inside the classically decorated property, you’ll see bare red brick walls and vintage fireplaces.

Light fills the rooms from large sash windows with shutters, overlooking the breathtaking scenery. The front door opens up to a living and dining room area, with neutral colours and natural features.

A kitchen is tucked away under the stairs, and the back door opens up onto serene communal grounds. Heading upstairs you will find two cosy bedrooms, one overlooking the front courtyard and another overlooking the gardens.

Both bedrooms also have large natural wood windows letting in plenty of natural light. On the landing is a cupboard with ample storage and family bathroom.

Decorated with natural stone textured tiles, with black accent fixtures, the bathroom contains a bath and shower. It’s also got a skylight window above the bath to filter in sunshine.

Albury Parish is a pretty, tiny village which has an interesting background intertwined with the estate. Former owner Admiral Finch reportedly harassed villagers until they moved out of the original village to the neighbouring hamlet of Weston, so he could transform the land into a park. Albury Park extends to more than 150 acres and within it is all that is left of the old village of Albury: three or four houses and a Saxon church.

Previously the parish sat on the banks of the River Tillingbourne, but now sits between Shere and Chilworth, and covers stunning viewpoint Newlands Corner. Silent Pool, Surrey’s famous gin distillery can be found in Albury, and so can Shere viewpoint and the Deer Trail for those who love walking.

Furthermore, Albury offers quintessential village life with Belmont Lake to the west, a church and pub called The Drummond at Albury. The pub is a popular riverside location, with a hidden gem garden that overlooks the Tillingbourne.

While Albury can feel pretty remote and quiet, it’s surprisingly close to the bustling town of Guildford. Just hopping in the car, you can be in Guildford in as little as 15 minutes, or 18 minutes by bus which stops right outside the Friary shopping centre.
