Not sure if you work in marketing? I’ve got you covered 👇 If a band is playing a concert in town, and you put up posters, then you work in advertising If you put the posters on the side of an old truck and have the the band play songs from the bed of the truck as it drives through town, then you work in promotion If the truck runs out of gas in the middle of the street and blocks traffic, and you get a local newspaper to write a story about it, then you work in publicity If you get the local authorities and politicians to tell the story laughing, then you work in public relations If you tell people about which songs the band will play, who the warmup act is, and how much fun they’re going to have, then you work in sales If you’re the one who planned all of it, then you work in marketing But, if at the end of it all, someone asks you “how many MQLs did we get?” then you work in B2B marketing.

Marketing feeds through every function in the your business. Let me say that again. Marketing feeds through EVERY function in your business. 💵 Accounts dept sending an invoice? You're communicating with clients so you're representing the company's brand. 👩💻 Recruiting for the next role? Your employer brand dictates the quality of candidates you attract. 💻 Operations dept doing the hands on work? The experience you give your clients will dictate how they perceive your brand. Have you noticed the common factor in the above examples? Brand. Brand is at the heart of your marketing and every person in the business should have ownership of it. When your marketing is perfectly aligns with all the other functions in your business, this is when you really see the benefit what it's capable of. Think of your marketing as an organ in the human body. If it isn't working to it's full potential, the body isn't as healthy as it could be. I've just given three examples. Got any more you can add?

Stop asking me this one thing, just because I work in marketing. ✋️ Nobody is even thinking about asking this question when you work in another sector. In HR, logistics, sales, administration, IT or accounting, no one even thinks about it! And the question that challenges my nerves is... What can you achieve with: - 0 info about the budget - 0 info about the strategy? and... most important thing 👇👇 Expected numbers and stats should fit any type of market, product or service, or even company!😅 Because if you did not know, marketing is all about one magical formula that anyone can use anytime, anywhere, no matter the situation. MARKETING HOUR! In various roles I’ve had marketing hour in sales teams diaries. A dedicated time for them to undertake the various activities we’re always asking them to do - and time kept clear in marketing’s diaries so we can be on hand to help. 🔥 Writing linkedin content 🔥 Recording videos 🔥 Jobs on the website 🔥 Interviewing clients 🔥 You get the gist If you haven't got a marketing hour and are struggling with sales and marketing alignment, then get one. But remember that it’s just a stepping stone. You want to create an environment where this isn't needed because sales and marketing are on the same page. It doesn’t need, and shouldn’t be confined to, an hour. But it’s a great tactical place to start as you implement a wider strategy. Marketing has definitely changed a lot since I started my career, but one thing has stayed the same… The need for authenticity. Buyers are savvier than ever — they can spot a sales pitch from a mile away. That’s why I always tell my team and clients: don’t try to sell — try to connect. People start to trust you when you’re authentic in your messaging, tell real stories, and show who you really are. And trust? Well, that’s what leads to long-term relationships and loyalty. You're missing the bigger picture if you’re just focused on selling a product. Focus on building genuine connections, and the sales will follow. How do you stay authentic in your marketing? Back in my client-side days, I had an executive tell me she wanted marketing to create a printed collateral piece that featured every single person who worked in one of our business verticals. Her sycophantic sales team thought it was a great idea. I the lowly marketing person did not for several reasons. 1. A piece like that makes it super easy for your competitors to know everyone in the vertical and come poaching. Why make it so easy? 2. The company had like a 40% turnover rate. We would have to reprint this thing every two weeks to keep up with the comings and goings. My boss and the other execs freaked when they heard this idea and it was killed. Just because an executive (who is brilliant at her job) has a marketing idea doesn't mean it's a good one.

Marketing... Perhaps the most overused, abused, misused word in business? People get a college degree yet have little legit working knowledge about all it encompasses. People are designated with business titles as Marketing Director, etc yet think merely placing ads on the radio or in a magazine is "marketing" enough. Marketing, networking & merchandising are interconnected yet can be totally unrelated. The only problem with 'generalizing' a job as "marketing" on a national scale is it simply multiplies the mistake of the company and costs more money from loss of productivity.

Marketing isn’t only about the stuff you sell. It’s also about: - The stories you tell - The people you help - The value you provide - The problems you solve - The relationships you create There’s so much more to it than just money. ♻️ REPOST to help your network 🔔 Follow me (Sachin Yadav) for more 

Stop thinking marketing is just there to help sales. That’s not how it works. The company doesn’t trust them to bring in new clients the right way. And marketing can’t do its job well if they don’t have what they need to help clients. Marketing is a partner, not just a helper. If you're serious about closing deals, let marketing come up with ideas that match what clients really want.
