The Beatles' Ringo Starr's 11-word message as he reunites on stage with Paul McCartney
Sir Paul brought his former bandmate out on stage for his final night of the 'Got Back' tour
Ringo Starr joined Paul McCartney on stage for the final night of his 'Got Back' tour. Sir Paul played his second gig of the tour at The O2 in London on Thursday (December 19), having played two nights at Manchester's Co-op Live last weekend.
At the start of the night, the Walton-born Beatles legend, 82, told the crowd: “Oh London, this is the last night of our current tour, we’ve been around South America and all over the place. So it’s great to be back and we’re going to have some fun tonight.”
Sir Paul later invited Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood on stage for the song 'Get Back', which saw him play his original Hofner 500/1 bass for the first time in 50 years, after it was stolen in 1972. But the main surprise came during the encore, when Sir Ringo joined his former Beatles bandmate to play 'Helter Skelter' and 'Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band'.
Arriving on stage, Sir Ringo said: “I’ve had a great night tonight, it’s been a great show.” Staying understated, when he left, the 84-year-old drummer from Dingle added: “I’m off now, I’ve had a great night and I love you all."
Sir Ringo and Sir Paul have reunited a number of times in recent years, including on Sir Paul’s 2019 'Freshen Up' tour, and at the drummer's 2015 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction. Fans in attendance last night were delighted to see Sir Ringo.
