A Place in the Sun presenter says 'I'm not feeling the love' after couple's reaction
Phil and Justine from Leicestershire were searching for a holiday home in the Costa del Sol
A Place in the Sun presenter Laura Hamilton told a couple how she was "definitely not feeling the love" after their immediate reaction to a property.
Friday evening's episode of A Place In The Sun saw host, Laura Hamilton helping retired couple Phil and Justine find their dream holiday home in the Costa del Sol. On the Channel 4 show, Phil revealed he had just recovered from throat cancer and was looking for a holiday home to "take it easy". He said: "I've been watching the show whilst I've been ill, lying on the settee, and I thought that's what we need to be doing".
Phil and Justine live in Leicestershire and have been married for almost 30 years. The couple have two grown up sons, so told presenter Laura now was the "perfect time" to search for a holiday home. They own a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom business together and told host Laura they were happy to "do a bit of work" to redesign some rooms to create their dream property.
However host Laura had her work cut out for her from the outset. The couple had a budget of £200,000 for a property in the Costa del Sol, where premium apartments with a pool can cost up to £700,000.
The car loving couple, who often go to motorsport events in the UK, also wanted to bring their car to Spain with them, which added another factor to the property search that Laura needed to consider.
Property one was a possible contender, but the couple preferred to be closer to the beach. Property two was a great location, but too small for Phil and Justine.
The couple were wowed by the third property, which offered an open plan living room, two double bedrooms with doors out to a terrace as well as an en-suite and family bathroom. They said it was the "best one yet", but said they would revamp the kitchen and bathrooms.
Property four was a larger townhouse, with a secure car park beneath ground. However, before going inside the property, the couple were immediately put off by the location, and also pulled their face at the asking price of £203,478, which was over budget. Laura joked: "Well I'm definitely not feeling the love from either of you!"
She added: "Judging by those reactions, I'm not sure this one is going to go down so well." After looking around the property, Phil said: "not for us Laura this one."
The last apartment was a lot bigger and more modern than the previous properties. However, Justine said that it felt too "residential compared to a holiday home." Laura said: "I'm hearing a lot of negatives." Phil added: "I don't think there's any point looking anymore round this one."
After a tricky search, none of the properties met Phil and Justine's wishes of a large property close to the beach with £200,000. They needed to make some more compromises to get their dream home.
Laura said: "In order to get all of that, plus underground parking, you are going to have to throw a bit more money at it." Phil hoped him and Justine will "come back soon" to find their ideal holiday home, perhaps with a bigger budget.
