A Call The Midwife star looked completely different as she opted for a drastically different hairstyle.

Helen George, 38, plays Trixie Franklin in the BBC drama, with the character rocking a trademark blonde bob.

However in a new photo on Instagram, the actor, who has been on Call the Midwife since it began in 2012, looks almost unrecognisable with long brown wavy hair.

Helen wears a black off the shoulder dress with a feathered neckline, matching her wavy chestnut locks.

The star's make-up is done flawlessly and she appears to be on an evening out, as she stands in front of a plush blue wall with a gilded picture frame behind her.

Sharing the photo yesterday, Helen simply posted a black love heart emoji in the caption and credited a make-up artist.

Friends and followers rushed to complement Helen on her new look, with one pal saying: "Sooooooo there for this look!"

The kind words prompted Helen herself to comment: "Just needed a change babes xx"

One TV fan suggested her character Trixie adopts the hair colour too, writing: "Please keep the colour for series 13 on call the midwife. New trixie for 1970."

Another person said: "I didn't recognise you. You look like a different person."

Another likened her to former X Factor judge Danni Minogue.

Last year Helen revealed that she grappled with the same condition as a character on the beloved BBC show.

Fans of the series may recall Sister Frances befriending a teen mum who scratches her hands ‘red raw’ during pregnancy and just after.

She was eventually diagnosed with Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) - a liver condition which affects one in 140 pregnant women in the UK, as per the NHS .

The condition prevents the proper flow of bile from the liver to the gut to assist with digestion, which in turn causes a harmful build up of stomach acid in the body instead.

And it turns out that Helen was also diagnosed with the same condition during her first and second pregnancy, and recently revealed that it was ‘wonderful’ that her story was also intertwined with the show’s storyline.

Speaking to Heat Magazine , Helen said: “They were very kind last year to cover cholestasis of pregnancy, which is something that I suffered from in both of my pregnancies.

“That wasn’t really something that myself and Heidi [Thomas, the series writer] ever had, but there was obviously an awareness.”

She continued: “I think it’s lovely when life mirrors art, and there’s a touch of that.

“I’ve definitely been working hard to spread the word, so it was wonderful having it included in a storyline on mainstream TV.

“Heidi has been with me through both of my pregnancies, everybody [on the show] has,” Helen said.

Helen also spoke to the publication about her work with the charity, ICP Support, and how they influenced the storyline.
