The Hills star Heidi Montag broke down in tears as she shared a devastating update on her home that was completely destroyed in the tragic Los Angeles fires.

The reality TV star's family home which she shared with husband Spencer Pratt and their two sons was totally gutted after a massive 1,200-acre brush fire broke out in the Palisades on Tuesday morning. Thankfully, the couple and their family managed to evacuate their home safely earlier in the day.

Now, after Spencer shared a video on his Instagram Stories showing fire officials attempting to control the blaze by dropping water from above onto the nearby mountainside, Heidi has provided a heartbreaking update.

Taking to Snapchat, Heidi was comforted by youngest son Ryker, two, as she sobbed: "I have no words... I'm so thankful that we're safe. I'm so sad our house is gone. I wish I could have gone back and got more. I didn't think it would be the last time we would be in our house. I'm so sad for everyone else going through the same thing."

She continued: "It's really hard losing your house and everything you worked so hard for. Life is so crazy."

As the tears continued, Heidi admitted she wished she had been able to pack away her son Gunner's artwork prior to evacuating. She continued to share updates throughout Wednesday, saying the grief was "coming in waves". "I just want to go home. I just want to feel my stuff and sit on my couch. I'm so homesick," she broke down and said once again.

So far, five people have been sadly confirmed to have lost their lives in the blaze according to officials. It's reported over 1000 homes have been destroyed and more than 70,000 people evacuated. One of the areas hardest hit is the Pacific Palisades, an affluent Los Angeles neighbourhood that is the home to many high profile A-listers, including Mandy Moore, Paris Hilton, Anthony Hopkins and Jamie Lee Curtis, all of whom have lost their homes in the unfolding carnage.

There have been a number of huge blazes reported across the region so far, with fires in Hurst, Eaton, Woodley, Palisades and Runyon Canyon. It's reported the fires are now so substantial they span more than 25,000 acres - and the smoke is even visible from space, as per the Nasa Space Observatory.

President Joe Biden took to social media on Wednesday evening to say: "I have directed the @DeptofDefense to rapidly provide additional firefighting personnel and capabilities to the region being impacted by the Southern California wildfires. We also continue to work closely with the National Guard. My thanks to the California National Guard and the Nevada National Guard for readying Airborne Firefighting Systems.Ten Navy helicopters with water delivery buckets are on their way.”
